Leigh Hart talks to the New Zealand Rugby Foundation
so good to hear Sid Going mentioned.... one of my heroes from the good old days of 3am live international coverage on B&W TV... passed away recently
Meads always seemed even bigger than he was - especially on the pitch.
Legend. I fully agree with him about the present day "rugby". Unfortunately money killed the real spirit of the sport. It is commercialised. I often wonder who will play rugby when it goes back to non paying. Play for the love of the game.
Sir Thug.
Colin and Willie John would have to be in any world 15 since ww 2 , longevity, playing ability, for so many years they dominated,
Bring back Buck...
Earle Kirton All Black first five from 1963-1970 played 13 tests and later an AB selector.
As a young (English) Marine Engineer Officer I had the good fortune to meet the great man at Masterton Rugby club after the first game of the 1977 Lions tour. Myself and another chap from the ship were introduced to him and I recall his height and massive hands that seemed to be hewed from wood. A very polite giant of a man.
Show the calibre of the lowlife O’Driscoll! I’m sure McCaw wouldn’t give 2 shits
A real man, a real rugby player.. dying breed. A true all black...
Trouble is, Meads was a total thug on the pitch
He had a role to play in ensuring the opposition didn't get away with anything themselves I agree. But to say he was a total thug shows aa appraent lack of appreciation.of rugby and the mans skill to dominate at the highest level.
So what. That was how they played in those times and every team from wherever you’re from in the world, who played back then, had their own ‘enforcer’s’
By the way, we call it a paddock in NZ, or a field, not a pitch. traditionally (in NZ at least) many of the players were hardy farmers. A lot of changes were made when the game became professional.
Nice bro hug with Ma'a Nonu- two of the best centre's ever!
Good player, fantastic example to youth about overcoming obstacles to be the best. Significantly, no hesitation in naming the best player he had played with - Super Sid Going. Bryan Williams, Ian Kirkpatrick and Peter Whiting all said the same thing, you do your part and let Sid run the game.
I'm from Scotland- what a legend he is. The rugby world will probably focus on THAT Gareth Edwards try in the ABs v Barbarians game in '73...but I remember Grant's virtuosity in that game just as much.
Legendary rip
what a player. love from wales,
Tis one for the MIGHTY ALL BLACKS SUPPORTERS, Common the WAR is not over yet, it just started. Listen to PINE TREE, LEGEND OF RUGBY ALL BLACKS. Have some laughs and funs, what tis LEGEND got to say. And get back on tracks and support the MIGHTY ALL BLACKS.
Life was better then
This guy was some player - an absolute freak...
No one was hurt in a ruck? To use his favourite word....Bullshit. Tell JPR whose face was used as a doormat by your wonderful team or Ken Catchpole who YOU crippled in a ruck. Or all the players who Murdoch stamped on or kicked up the arse. You may not have been but you hurt a few. So please tell the truth.
A hard man to play middle of scrum so well and so long
Hey sir Henry not nice of you to bag the wallabys we didn't bag you and your all blacks when you lost to lowly France a few times in world cup semis 😂😂😂😂😊😊
The Mack!
A super star! As a teenager used to go to hataitai park and watch him sprint, tried to keep up, no chance!
Not nice of you to bag the wallabies ! We didn't bag you and the all blacks wen you lost to lowly France in a few world cup semi ,s 😁😁😁
Looks like a criminal lies heaps
I was 8 years old when I first saw the All Blacks. First saw the Haka. And first saw Colin Meads. I have been a fan of all three ever since. Nice to see Sir Colin. Bit of a time lag, but that is the beauty of youtube
De Villiers is the real motivator of men
7
Would be fascinated to see what these men would have looked like with today’s training, diet & conditioning. Obviously mentally tough guys - but to have those things too?...
From sa support i think this clip is ino need to show i didnt see anything at all, snd also think Richie and o"bricoll are two grate persons, sportsman and rugby players... Sometimes frustration, presure and adrenaline makes playes aggressive or different on the spot or field i didnt saw anything realy to be need for this clip...
He just being a cynical, bitter, pessimistic bad loser or in other words just very Irish
The 3 All Black forwards who played back in the 1960's who would have been stars in todays game are Colin Meads ,Ken Gray and Ian Kirkpatrick.
Just came across this channel, thanks Ben, awesome video. When I attended De La Salle College in East London, South Africa, in the 70's, Colin along with Jake Burns visited our school....great memories. The Greatest All-Black of all time. Rest in Peace "Pinetree".
Unfortunately, when a man stoops to crippling the best player in the world, by deliberately tearing his hamstring off the bone while that player is pinned to the ground by several All Blacks - I'm sorry, but that man ceases to ever be funny, or worthy of any respect. Colin Meads is not worthy to kiss Ken Catchpole's boots.
Jog on troll.
Fuz well said, unfortately it was not an isolated incident, Jeff Young, Cliff Morgan and Dai Morris can attest to that. This rouge elephant should have been culled decades ago.
@@JarmoNZ203 Trolls don't use historical facts as I did in my post. Nothing trollish about it. Colin Mead is lower than Loe - and more gutless than Peter Fitzsimons against the French.
Sad that this comment presumes that any player in that era of rugby would co-exist with the morals and so called stoicism of pom public schools. Whoa!!! from the home of soccer's hooligan's. All forwards players of that time came from the code of decency in rugby ....not!. There's a wider view here no excuses, your right your opinion.
Meads claims it wasn't deliberate .He was told by the coaches to not let Catchpole burrow into the pack He grabbed Catchpole by the leg to clear him out of the ruck and didn't know his other leg was trapped under other bodies.
Snub....really. Grow up and stop being so one-eyed.
*I agree - they should abolish ALL laws*
*the shortest way to say 'hello' **0:00*
Currently doing Reno on his house. Very cool and knowledgeable man. Love his rugby story’s always good yarns.
Is Brian O Driscoll that important?
Probably the best centre ever but who cares right?
@MrLoveOneAnother Not you again the most uneducated person rugby.
I didn’t see that one coming, so funny
classic legend
Hi Andy, Garry from Johannesburg, South Africa. The Great Rugby commentator, Bill Mclaren describing Colin Meads. " I see a Great sheep farmer who carried the ball in his hands as though it was an orange pip". Rest in Peace "Pinetree".
Surely, he was one of the best locks that played the the game, a true legend, what a legacy!
A Legend and a Gentleman, from Johannesburg, South Africa. I have included three All-Blacks in my Childhood Heroes Team.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Rip Too funny
Would love to seen Meads and MacBride together in the engine room. Both raised on the farm and gave their all for their country and then some more. Yes, he was dirty but all the great forwards had the nasties in these days. The All Blacks are the yardstick still on the standard you must reach. Wins are accepted. Losses are mourned.
Yes Syd was a tough Little bugger,Saw a game in Sth Africa 76 I think were a giant lock King hits Syd, Syd takes the punch and then unleashed a 4-5 punch combo On the huge man who was not keen to Carry it on
I was in awe of pine tree when he walked on the Main Street of Taumarunui back in the day ,what a player
He was my favourite player as a kid. A great all black it’s good to see he still has that twinkle in his eyes 😊
A man once suggested someone to be the toughest pound for pound rugby player of all time. He didn't suggest Grant Batty so it was clearly nonsense.
